(eig.); fortasse (vielleicht). – Gott weiß oder weiß Gott, welcher etc., nescio qui. – sich viel wissen auf etwas, iactare alqd (etwasimmerim Munde führen); gloriari alqā re (sich einer Sache rühmen). – andere wissen doch, weo aus oder ein, ich nicht, habet aliorum ratio exitum, mea nullum: vor vielen Geschäften weder aus noch ein w., plurimis oder maximis occupationibus distineri.
Siehe Außerdem merke man noch: a) ist »wissen« = »können«, so wird es übersetzt: α) durch scire (die Kenntnis haben, worin erfahren sein), z.B. die Freiheit weder zu verachten noch zu gebrauchenwissen, libertatem nec spernere nec habere scire. – Ebenso »nicht wissen«; nescire, z.B. er weiß nicht zu zürnen, irasci nescit. – β) durch habere (die Mittel haben, in dem Falle sein, z.B. du weißt nicht anzugeben, wie du die Statue gekauft hast, non habes, quo modo emeris signum: ich weiß einen zu nennen (anzuführen), der etc., habeo dicere, [2720] qui etc.: das wußte ich etwa über das Wesen der Götter zu sagen, haec fere dicere habui de natura deorum. – γ) durch posse (imstande sein), z.B. einer in diesem Staate, wenigstens weiß ich nur diesen anzuführen, unus in hac civitate, quem quidem ego possum dicere. – δ) durch das bloße Tempus des dabeistehenden Verbums, wenn weder von einer wirklichen Kenntnis, noch davon, daß man die Mittel dazu habe, die Rede ist, z.B. er weiß sich in sein. Unglück zu schicken, rem adversam aequo animo fert: ich weiß mich nicht zu erinnern, non memini: er wußte es dahin zu bringen, daß etc., perfecit, ut etc.: ich bedarf des Trostes nicht; ich weiß mich selbst zu trösten, non egeo medicinā; me ipse consolor. – b) in der Verbindung »was das betrifft... so wisse« wird »so wisse« nicht übersetzt, s. Cic. ep, 1, 7, 2: quod scire vis, quā quisque in te fide sit et voluntate. difficile dictu est de singulis, so wisse, daß es schwierig ist etc. – Ebenso nach Absichtssätzen wie: damit dir nicht unbekannt bleibt... so wisse etc., s. Cic. de nat. deor. 1, 17: sed ut hic qui intervenit ne ignoret, quae res agatur, de natura agebamus deorum, so wisse er, wir verhandelten über etc.

Infin., wo es bl. umschreibender Zusatz ist; im Latein, bl. durch die erforderliche Form bes dabeistehenden Hauptverbums ausgedrückt, z.B. er tat dies, damit ste ihn ehren lernten, fecit hoc, ut eum revererentur. – Lernen, das, umschr. mit discere, z.B. das L. wird ihm leicht, ad discendum promptus est: jmd. zum eifrigen L. anregen, alqm ad cupiditatem discendi excire: Drang, großen Drang zum L. haben, s. lernbegierig (sein, sehr sein).
